A young injured hawksbill turtle was recovered from the Hermitage on Monday 25 May 2020 by Kélonia, the sea turtle care and observation centre. “The wounds are not very old and could have been caused by a predator,” explains Kélonia. With a curved carapace length of 31 cm and a weight of 2.6 kg, this is a young turtle finishing its pelagic (offshore) phase where it drifted with the ocean currents to reach coastal habitats, richer in food. The overweight condition and scale drawings show good growth.
