The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has said that the Sultanate’s coast in the Governorate of Dhofar is currently witnessing the prevalence of a poisonous organism known as the ‘Portuguese man-of-war’ that surfaced along a stretch of the beach adjoining the wilayats of Salalah (Al
Mughsayl) and Taqah. The rare phenomenon, also known as the ‘Blue Bottle’, is a type of Physalia Utriculus that is widespread in the Indian Ocean and the Pacific.
The Research Centre at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in Dhofar has described the spread of this phenomenon for the first time in the Sultanate as a “rare occurrence”.
