At 11h25, Sunday, 10th February, NSRI Station 5 Durban duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following reports of a ski-boat capsized 1 nautical mile off-shore of the Durban Port entrance and reportedly the 6 crew were in the water. The sea rescue craft MEGAN II was launched and our NSRI rescue vehicle responded to Vetchies Beach.
On arrival on the scene, 3 passing private boats had stopped to assist and all 6 casualty crew had been rescued onto 2 of the private boats and they were not injured despite some minor cuts and bruises. The 6 casualty crew were taken ashore on the 2 private boats and NSRI medics assessed their injuries and treatment was administered to minor injuries and the NSRI righted the capsized boat and towed the casualty boat to Neptunes Launch site where it was recovered and no further assistance was required.
