The defendant, currently incarcerated in the central prison, is asking this court to review the decision of the Bail and Remand Court (BRC) to deny him bail on 22 March 2018.
Keshwin Manish Seewoochurn was arrested on 22 April 2017 in Sint Maarten. He has been charged, on a provisional basis, with attempting to transport heroin. According to the provisional indictment, on March 9, 2017, at the Container Freight Station at Mauritius Freeport Development (MFD) at Mer Rouge, he attempted to transport 157 kg of heroin that police had seized from the port. The drug, worth Rs 2 billion, had been hidden in compressors in a container from South Africa that had been imported on board the MSC Ivana ship. (…)
