The Hawks Serious Organised Crime Team together with Crime Intelligence and officials from the Department of Environmental Forestry and Fisheries (DEFF) recently bust an illegal abalone facility in Brackenfell, Cape Town. “They found a total of 15 837 units weighing 376,3 kg of dried abalone worth an estimated street value of more than R2,7 million.
Two suspects aged between 36 and 26 were subsequently arrested and are to appear at the Kuils River Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 25 February 2021 to face charges of operating an illegal abalone processing facility.
